Concern For Overweight Teens

According to BBC News today, more than a third of overweight teenagers do not regard themselves as too heavy, considering their weight to be ‘about right’.

The study was funded by the charity Cancer Research UK and appears in the International Journal of Obesity.

Scientists worry that the rising levels of obesity across the population might have ‘normalised’  the idea of being overweight or obese. On the other hand, many people argue that media and cultural messages encourage people to be thin, leading some to overestimate their weight.
